A Three Part "Rock~Solid"

skills for today's technicians. In many trades, electrical problems
represent the majority of all service calls (in HVAC, it represents
over 70% of all problems). Electro-mechanical systems are powered
controlled and regulated by electricity. To be a successful technician,
you must understand electricty - how it works, what physical laws
control it, how to read and generate electrical diagrams, and how
to hunt down difficult electrical problems.

Do you understand electrical terms like: STEP UP, STEP DOWN, BUCKING,
BOOSTING, VOLTAGE DROP, IN PHASE, OUT OF PHASE, TRUE POWER, APPARENT
POWER, and the difference between WATTS and VA LOADS? And what about
power systems, do you understand PRIMARY, SECONDARY, HOT LEG, L-1,
L-2, L-3, WYE, DELTA, NEUTRAL, and why the HIGH LEG is sometimes called
the WILD or BASTARD LEG? Given the requirements of a circuit, do you
know how to read and generate pictorial and ladder wiring diagrams?
Given only a wiring

component in a complex electrical control circuit?

need to attend our three part "Electrical Theory & Troubleshooting
Skills" course. Every one of the above mentioned topics will
be covered in three presentations that will keep you on the edge of
your seat. This is a "solid base" course, which means you
will be hammered with important technical information time and time
again until you know the information cold. After taking this course,
you will have ability to (as we put it) "think like an electron"
- and yes - you will be able to effectively troubleshoot even complex
electrical control systems.

· Understanding the difference between Watts & VA loads
· Understand single phase and three phase power circuits
· Understand voltage differences between "Delta"
& "WYE" three phase supplies
· Examine the internal components of single and three phase
· Understand proper methods of testing single and three phase
Wiring diagrams & troubleshooting techniques
· Understand Line ~ Load ~ Control (LLC) and control strategies
· Read pictorial and ladder wiring diagrams
Develop characteristics and specifications for an electrical control
· What do you want the circuit to do
· What components will be needed for the circuit
Design wiring diagrams to meet the required characteristics and specifications
· Identifying the relationship of controls and loads, in relationship
to the power source
· Choosing between a "Ladder" and a "Pictorial"
· Practice drawing and wiring (on paper) several simple and
complex wiring diagrams
Develop skills in troubleshooting electrical circuits
· Seeing why using an ohm meter to "Ring It Out"
is often a waste of time
· Understanding why the phrase "Where's The Volts"
is so important
· Find failed components, wires, shorts, bad connections, etc.
using a volt ~ amp meter, and a wiring diagram
Introduction to "Mr. Meter" (this is fun!)
· A whole bunch of troubleshooting exercises with class participation
· This is a proven and fun "stick with you" skills
